IT was supposed to be a working trip for the Taiwanese artistes but they were more in a holiday mood upon arriving in Penang.
Actor Sung I-Ming, who brought along his wife, said the three-day trip was more like his belated “honeymoon”.
He said he had been too busy with his job to find time to take his wife on a honeymoon after marrying her four years ago.
“I decided to take advantage of the not-so-packed schedule this time to spend some time with her on this beautiful island,” he said.
Sung, who played An Ping in ‘Love’ (popular Taiwanese Hokkien drama series), said this was his first break after a busy year acting in over 200 episodes in the series.
“I am looking forward to a steaming pot of bak kut teh later,” he said.
Sung said he could never forget the delicious dish he sampled more than 10 years ago in Kuala Lumpur.
His co-actress Penny Lin said she was glad to be welcomed by the beautiful sunshine of Penang.
“I have already ‘died’ in the drama series.
“So now it’s time for me to take a short vacation and readjust my ‘clock’ which had gone all wrong because we worked from evening till dawn while shooting the series,” she said.
The actress who starred as Le Le in the series said this was her first visit to the state and she might spend some time checking out George Town to learn more about the culture.
“But what I am really looking forward to is enjoying the beautiful sunlight at the beach in a new bikini,” she told a press conference before meeting the fans recently.
The actor and actress were in Penang in conjunction with the Astro Hua Hee Dai channel promotion at Queensbay Mall.
Together with Lin and Sung were kids’ show hosts, See Gua Ge Ge (Watermelon brother), Cao Mei Jie Jie (Strawberry sister) and Pu Tao Jie Jie (Grape sister).
The trio, known to kids as Yoyo’s family, are well-known for their shows such as ‘Yoyo DIY School’.
Si Gua Ge Ge Daniel Lee said they were surprised that Malaysian children recognised them from the programme they hosted (broadcast on Astro Xiao Tai Yang channel).
At Queensbay Mall, screaming fans jostled to snap pictures of Sung and Lin. The two artistes performed and joined fans in the games and sessions on stage.
Queensbay Mall is currently the largest, longest and most modern shopping mall in Penang. Its tagline “It’s all happening here!” aptly epitomized the “enriched” lifestyles that Queensbay Mall offers – a place which is vibrant and full of activities, one can shop, play, relax, get together, entertain, be entertained.
